Week 2: Skype with Amanda Buck

Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I have a Skype call with Christian or Jennifer. During these calls we discuss the project updates from Opa-locka or what needs to be accomplished for the following week. This week we decided to move forward with locating a graphic designer and found Amanda Buck. She’s originally from Ohio (we won’t hold that against her) and she currently resides in Chicago (brownie points.) The first time I was exposed to Amanda’s work was during a trip with the team to visit the Pie Lab and the Rural Studio in Greensboro, Alabama. Read more about Pie Lab here. Most recently, Amanda was commissioned to work on the POTUS reelection campaign. It’s exciting to have the opportunity to collaborate with such talented individuals.

During an initial Skype call with Amanda we discussed deliverables, design aesthetic, and the vision for the identity—Made in Opa-locka. Our goal with Made in Opa-locka is change the connotation associated with the city through a series of public spaces and entrepreneurial opportunities.
