The Planning Office is a space for designer outreach to the Magnolia North Community. Over the years, many plans have been drafted for Magnolia North and promises of change left unfulfilled. The premise of Made in Opa-locka is to produce a vision for Magnolia North from within the community itself -- rather than a "plop art/architecture" that is oblivious to the realities in which it exists. The Planning Office is the epicenter of our attempt to produce a vision that is both embedded in and representative of the community.
Art exhibitions and installations take place in a former apartment house-turned-gallery. The space is at once an office for Made in Opa-Locka and a venue for engaging with the Magnolia North Community. Planning and designing alongside residents within a public gallery allows for a bottom-up strategies to emerge.
